The screen and does not ever proceed. Since the network is not yet up and the system is still single user, I have been able to get more information. I bisected to find that 359957 was the culprit. If is possible that this is a drm issue that was hidden before this change, so I will post a note about this to x11. I have seen reports on x11@ of problems with systems locking up with blank screens, so this might tie into those. My system is an old T520 with Sandy Bridge GPU.
