I tried installing the gatos drivers and was able to get video and audio from the composite inputs for my 8500DV, though nothing from the coax input. However, DRI stopped working apparently because of the mixed DRI/DRM versions, (credit to Eric Anholt for explaining this to me) so my 3D acceleration went away. So, it looks like you can have video in or 3D out, but not both, with the current state of things.
