This sounds like a > bug "elsewhere". I'm sorry. I don't have any sort of logs anymore. Some time after Oct 20, after a disk crash, I reinstalled from a 4.4-RELEASE cdrom and tried to upgrade to 5.0-CURRENT by going to 4-STABLE first. It was just one month after 4.7-RELEASE and the build stopped because touch was not in the path early during the bootstrap tools stage. I could probably repeat this if I tried now, but the touch-btool.patch fixed it immediately for me, and then I just forgot about it.
