And I was just saying that most of the mailers that I've encountered
do not require extra steps to read the message, and so I concluded
that one that does must be broken by design.

HTML is a bit irksome (at the moment---I can see it becoming more and
more acceptable with time), but I fail to see how message signing is a 
nuissance to anyone.  Ultimately, I expect all e-mail to be digitally
signed by default.
