It sounds like Ghostscript is working if you're getting even part of the page. A guess would be that the printer is running out of memory. To handle a full page at 600x600 (letter) would take 4M of memory in the printer, more for A4 pages. Some printers use compression techniques to require less, but not all images compress well.
