As for the "no localhost" problem, see the Errata file on www.freebsd.org and correct the entry in your /etc/rc.conf which says network_interfaces="xl0 auto" to "xl0 lo0" This is a known problem in -RELEASE, which is fixed in -STABLE. After this (and a reboot) try sysinstall again. Chances are things will get all right again. Cheers!
