 Try the "last" command... it keeps a log of activity on your box for the
duration of the month... so something like:

last | more

 would let you scroll screen by screen.

If you're after one particular user, just add the name...

last root

for instance.

It'll show you some neat stuff.

You may also want to look in /var/log/security (depending on how your
syslog is configured).
