In Windows, I don't even have an option to enable DMA as the card's drivers claim it is a SCSI card... In the Promise FAQ, there is mention of not having the option to enable DMA (in Windows) because the card determines which devices should use DMA; and I also recall that they suggest only using hard drives on a Promise card, as other devices will work but not optimally (I can't remember exactly -- check their site for the real wording). My ultimate solution was rather drastic -- got a new motherboard, with a VIA 8233a controller (my old board, ABIT KT7A, seemed to have a buggy 686B chipset that stole way too much CPU time even in DMA mode, and the Promise card caused its own problems...)
