threaded apache2 seems to hold "fine",didn't put much stress yet, though. 
I noticed that something weird happens if I make 'apachectl restart':
after normall start you get a la 
www  httpd
....
www  httpd % childs 
root httpd % parent  
after  'apachectl restart' there is one 
www httpd 
hanging around which does nothing but good to be killed -9. 
On the opposite
'apachectl stop' 'apachectl start' sequence does works fine.
