BTW, an existing 3.2R installation boots fine, recognizes irq 14 apparently, reports wdc0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7 irq 14 on isa. >How-To-Repeat: Get a Compaq 5250 (from usedlaptops.com among others) and try. >Fix: Booting up 4.2 from 3.2: 4.2's kernel.GENERIC boots, and recognizes disk!
