Okay, here I go. I have FreeBSD up and running, but now its time to
figure out how to connect all the peripherals.
My system:
Micron 66Mhz Pentium
Conner 1Gb Harddrive attached to a NexStor PCI FAST SCSI-2 adapter
Mitsumi FX001D 2x CD-ROM
Conner Tape.Stor C250MQ tape backup connected to the floppy controller
on the motherboard
1 3.5" floppy drive
Microsoft Mouse
NEC Silentwriter 2 Model 90 connected to a parallel port
Practical Peripherals 144e (Hayes compatible) 14,400 external modem
My problems:
1. Randomly my cd-rom gives the error message
mcd1: media change
and I cannot access it. Sometimes I can umount it and then
mount it again. But usually I wind up rebooting to connect it
again.
2. I have been unable to access the tape backup using any fd0? It
is using the same floppy controller at the floppy disc that I
can access.
3. I have no idea where to start on getting the modem connected. I
have yet to run across the appropriate faq or documentation. Same
for the printer. Where do I look?
4. I was following the directions on installing an X server, but I
have not been able to see if the mouse is working. Works in
Windows, but the "cat </dev/tty0?" commands produce no results.
If I need to look at available documentation, please point me in the
right direction. If I haven't provided enough information, let me
know.
I feel that I have read the documentation carefully, and have supplemented
what came on the Walnut Creek CD with the "Essential System Administration"
book and the "4.4BSD-Lite CD-ROM Companion". However, I am still rather
lost.
Thanks very much.
regards,
wayne
