hmmm my workaround was nowhere as elegeant as some
of the other suggestions (my server is 1.5 hour drive
away so rebooting is a real issue...)
edit rc and change fsck -p line to fsck -y ...
modify /etc/fstab and make large file systems
(proxies etc.) noauto and load them manually,
or via a shell script in rc.local ...
