Subject: Soundblaster only plays 1 sec of .au file

I don't play *.au files or XBoing very much (both of which seem to use
my SoundBlaster's FM channel), but I just noticed that from either source
only 1 second of sound will actually be produced.

For example, if I do
echo foo.au >/dev/audio, (where foo.au is supposed to last 2 seconds)
I'll hear one second of audio and then just static, and the command will
NEVER end (it seems) until I hit CTRL-C.

I if I play XBoing with sound turned on, after 1 second of the intro
sounds it freezes and, again, I have to exit it with CTRL-C.

What could be causing this?

I'm using a 2.1-stable kernel with bpf and Netatalk installed...

thanks,
