mplayer does rock, however on my system (P400, G200) it can't run
some DivX files at full rate (if I forget to turn on -frameskip it
tends to bog down (noted as an actual slowdown in the video and 
audio stutter) and be somewhat unpleasant.  Aviplay seems to be 
more efficent on my system (taking about 10% less CPU time for both
the aviplay process and the XFree process on the same DivX 
encoded video).

Truth be told, I still use smpeg to play MPEG1 files because it is
so nice to my CPU.
