I get the same error message when trying "ifconfig wi0 mediaopt hostap". However "wi" defaults to port-type 6, after installing, which is hostap. I can use wicontrol -p x (x=1,3,6) to switch modes though?? I have no other issues other than ifconfig not working. %uptime 11:10AM up 6 days, 9:38, 1 user, load averages: 0.01, 0.01, 0.00 -Tony NIC is a D-LinkDWL650; %dmesg |grep "wi0" wi0: <WaveLAN/IEEE 802.11> at port 0x280-0x2bf irq 11 flags 0x10000 slot 1 on pccard1 wi0: 802.11 address: 00:05:5d:d7:07:11 wi0: using RF:PRISM2.5 MAC:ISL3873, Firmware: 1.3 variant 5 %ifconfig wi0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::205:5dff:fed7:711%wi0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x7 inet 192.168.2.201 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.2.255 ether 00:05:5d:d7:07:11 media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet autoselect (DS/2Mbps) status: associated ssid Freedom2 1:Freedom2 stationname "FreeBSD WaveLAN/IEEE node" channel 9 authmode OPEN powersavemode OFF powersavesleep 100 wepmode MIXED weptxkey 1 wepkey 1:128-bit %wicontrol NIC serial number: [ 99SA01000000 ] Station name: [ FreeBSD WaveLAN/IEEE node ] SSID for IBSS creation: [ Freedom2 ] Current netname (SSID): [ Freedom2 ] Desired netname (SSID): [ Freedom2 ] Current BSSID: [ 00:05:5d:d7:07:11 ] Channel list: [ 2047 ] IBSS channel: [ 9 ] Current channel: [ 9 ] Comms quality/signal/noise: [ 0 81 27 ] Promiscuous mode: [ Off ] Port type (1=BSS, 3=ad-hoc): [ 6 ] MAC address: [ 00:05:5d:d7:07:11 ] TX rate (selection): [ 3 ] TX rate (actual speed): [ 2 ] RTS/CTS handshake threshold: [ 2347 ] Create IBSS: [ Off ] Access point density: [ 1 ] Power Mgmt (1=on, 0=off): [ 0 ] Max sleep time: [ 100 ] WEP encryption: [ On ] TX encryption key: [ 1 ] Encryption keys: [ ][ ][ ][ ] %uname -a FreeBSD 4.5-STABLE-20020401-JPSNAP FreeBSD 4.5-STABLE-20020401-JPSNAP #2: Thu Apr 25 00:44:59 GMT 2002 root@tosh.saignon.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386 -----Original Message----- From: owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG [mailto:owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG] On Behalf Of M. First, the Intel 2011 is a Symbol card, not a prism2 card. I do know that the version of the firmware that you have doesn't support the hostap functionality. I have no idea if newer versions have it or not.
