 * It's un-necessary.  Old programs will work with the new library, but new
 * programs won't work with the old library, hence the reason for the bump.

Just to clarify, that's for a *minor* bump.

People, please look at the handbook if you are not comfortable with
shared library version numbers.  It's all there (and hopefully clear :).
