So it's not replacing Android. See chroot(2) and chroot(8). The developer used Linux Deploy, an app from Google, which creates a chroot on a SD card and copies Linux to it. Since Android only supports FAT32 that means that the Linux distribution has to be smaller than 4GiB (about 4.295 billion bytes). There are lots of drivers in the source tree, but based on the names it's difficult to tell just which hardware is supported.
