I agree that more recent versions of macOS (Monterey 12.6.1 tested) have the
bug fixed with "grep (BSD grep, GNU compatible) 2.6.0-FreeBSD".  So, indeed,
there is little point in reporting it to Apple =E2=80=94 and there was litt=
le point in
reporting it here either.

I apologize for the trouble.  Thank you for investigating.

I agree that the bug should be closed as "already fixed" =E2=80=94 or "unab=
le to
reproduce" in current versions =E2=80=94 and that has already happened.
