I tried the following this morning: # chroot /usr/release bin/sh # mount -t devfs devfs /dev # cd /usr/src/release # make release.8 It got as far as disklabel, where it died with "inappropriate ioctl for device" and rebooted. Unfortunately, I didn't see the panic message since I was in X, and for some mysterious reason there was no dump, though I did have a dump device configured.
