I have a bunch of machines which have this problem, but which we found
an alternative work-around.  It's one of these issues where the BIOS
looks at the partition table to try to guess the ``geometry''; but
when there is no partition table, it makes a guess (that sysinstall
heeds) which is it unable to make use of in practice.  These machines
are all due to be retired next FY so I don't much care about getting
this fixed.
