The "bad magic number" error message happens quite often when the browser makes a call to the plugin for a file that is not in the correct format.  In other words, it may happen if Netscape tries to send a non-RealAudio file to the RealAudio plugin, for instance.  One of the possible causes is that the site you are trying to get the information from uses redirection.  

I'm not sure if this helps, since I don't know the context you're getting the message in.
