There is no -DHOTSPOT (well, you can do it, but it won't do anything).

-DWITH_HOTSPOT implies -DWITH_NATIVE_THREADS, fwiw.

Just do -DWITH_HOTSPOT.

A number of ways.  The easiest way is to place -server at the head of
/usr/local/jdk1.3.1/jre/lib/jvm.cfg.
