Yes, I can tell you didn't try, since sysinstall has not done any such
thing since:

RCS file: /home/ncvs/src/release/sysinstall/install.c,v
revision 1.193
date: 1997/07/16 11:45:48;  author: jkh;  state: Exp;  lines: +5 -1
ln /compat to /usr/compat on initial installation; this will
prevent the later addition of compat libs from overflowing /

Christ man, that hasn't been a problem since the last century. :)
