Note that (AFAIK) there are about 4+ individuals who really understand
our VM code, and even though I *might* have a slight edge on the others,
the fact is, I really do make mistakes. Some of the bugs can lurk
for years (literally), and even obviously safe changes in my view can
be WRONG.

Right now, to fix this problem, I am forsaking everything that I can
to move forward. If I was sitting idle, I could understand frustration,
but right now, we really do need both the sig-(6,11) fixed, and also the
split code (for now, Alan Cox from cs.rice.edu came up with a potentially
cleaner concept) needs to be in there. Alan's ideas will be better in the
future, but right now we need what we have. Also, without this stuff
being brought into the public, there is a chance that I wouldn't have
gotten as much support.

If we didn't need the "fixes", I would have happily backed the code out.
If it ends up being a liability for much longer, I'll do something to
make things better, but right now, disabiling the split mechanism as-is
doesn't fix the problem.

I understand the problem, and sometimes things get in my way also. I
know that I am about the worst transgressor in this regard, but will
try to patch around the signals if I cannot fix it by later on
today (right now it is AM EST on Sun.) I do NOT want to get in JB's
way, and I have some more, less central VM things to do also.
