2) The fix is not cosmetic. Without fix one cannot easily build a program
to receive the FreeBSD daily mails and summarize them. I do not think
extracting real host name from received headers is an option here, it is
complicated and error-prone. As FreeBSD is far too vocal, this is
important with large environments. Ever tried reading 400 daily mails for
couple of months, all of which say "everything fine" ?
1) I cannot see any point in using short names anywhere, as they are
fundamentally ambiguous. Again, this is a problem in large environments as
there often are non-flat name spaces.
