I start X with the descendent of a script I wrote in the early 80's to start X10 on an ibm 701 running BSD unix. It doesn't really lend itself to dbus-launch. But I played around and was able to to make opensc-tool work in an xterm (without disabling polkit). I think I'll stick with --disable-polkit for now; but thank you for explaining how this fancy new stuff works! Craig
