You are assuming that you can boot from the CD-ROM, which isnt true
on any of the machines I own for starters. Floppies are still very
useful as a bootstapping tool - even Windows XP does it this way
after all. It may take 6 floppies, but it enables you to get the OS
onto a machine with just a boot floppy.
