Is 28 Sep the date of your 4.9-PRERELEASE? There was an important memory corruption bug in ipfw2 fixed before the 4.9 RELEASE (on 17/10/2003). The bug was triggered by dynamic rules, so if you're using dynamic rules then it is definitely worth trying to upgrade to 4.9-RELEASE. David.
