Perhaps you are talking about 4.4 BSD Lite (which is similar to FreeBSD 4.4 in nothing but name). 4.4 BSD was the last release from the CSRG at Berkeley. The Lite release was a version of 4.4 BSD that had been stripped of all remaining System V code (hence the Lite name). >From memory FreeBSD merged in 4.4BSD code base.
