I've tried apache built on Redhat 2.4.21-37.EL:

tmp# kldload linux
tmp# ./httpd
FATAL: kernel too old

tmp# file httpd
httpd: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (GNU/Linux), for GNU/Linux 2.2.5, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), not stripped

Which kind of apache are you starting? A FreeBSD native Apache (it  
will not work with a linux module), or a linux apache?
