No messages about irq. Other modems, both internal and external, work fine with that host. This was a cheap modem that I bought to use with a Win host. I'm not concerned about the fact that I can't use it with FBSD. I tried it briefly, couldn't get it to work, and put it back on the Win host. It may only be a software issue. But that may be enough to keep relative Unix beginners like me from using it. BTW, I checked the box for an external modem that I am using with a FBSD box. No mention of *n*x anywhere. So I have to retract my advice about checking for supported OSs. Bob Hall -- Know thyself? Absurd direction!
