Received my copy of SunExpert over the weekend; Rich Morin's column mentions Eric Raymond's "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" paper (in connection with the source-code release for Netscape's Web browsers), and points out that the FreeBSD model lies between the "Cathedral" and the "Bazaar" models of software development. I found it a useful way of looking at the way the FreeBSD "core" team works (though I'm sure there are some differences in perception as to how the core team works -- probably even (especially!) within the core team...).
