Bryan,
You may be out of luck with your Opti 924 card.
In FreeBSD 4.0, the sound code is called "newpcm", and is based
on Luigi's "pcm" sound driver in FreeBSD 2.2.x and 3.x
So I checked the "pcm" readme on my FreeBSD 3.4 box.
-------------------------
CHIPSET:
OPTI924: PnP
COMMENT:
I have this card but it is still unsupported.
-------------------------
So, if "pcm" in 2.2.x/3.x does not support the 924, I can see
why "newpcm" which inherited all the "pcm" code, does not support
it either.
However, we may be able to get the card working.
Firstly, can you answer these questions
1) is the card a SB clone
2) is the card a WSS (microsoft Windows Sound System) clone
3) on powerup, did you need to run a DOS driver to set the card
one mode or the other
-or- on power up was the card defaulting to say a Sound Blaster
4) If it is a SoundBlaster clone, is it 8 bit or 16 bit.
Be very carefull with this answer. I saw many cards claiming to be
"16 bit sound blaster compatible". What they actually were was
a clone of the 8 bit sound blaster pro, with an extra proprietry
16 bit mode, which was not the same as a true Sound Blaster 16.
(actually the special 16 bit mode usually turns out to be a clone
of the WSS card which was always a 16 bit card)
Thanks
Roger
