Why a video camera, in that case?
You could, for example, use a DC240 to take snapshots regularly
(automatically) via a shell script or whatever (oPhoto supports
this), and the picture resolution and quality is way better
than a video camera. On the other hand, of course, the DC240
isn't exactly cheap (around 550 $US street price).
