I did not know it is that bad with vn now. But your origininal
question was "how to increase the amount of virtual memory"...

I do not think it is, so I only go from one snapshot to another.

It will help, but your problem, I think is that you are running as
a regular user, and are hitting the artificial limits imposed on
you by /etc/login.conf. Check out the login.conf(5) for more.
