Thomas, Heiko, There have been lots of changes to the sound drivers since 4.0R. (especially for Yamaha which had problems playing mono sounds) The drivers in FreeBSD 4.1-stable are much better. If you do not want to upgrade to a 4.x-stable snapshot, then you can wait 15 days for FreeBSD 4.2, and upgrade to that.
