Ok, just checking, since nobody mentioned it yet :) Maybe you could
contact the author of that previous effort to talk about his experience
while doing this.

You can maybe use my patched ggatel utility
(http://ivoras.sharanet.org/freebsd/ggatel.tgz) to gather I/O statistics.=
