It is an MFC into stable/7 so if the machine in question is something you can experiment with just updating to stable/7 would take care of it. Otherwise if you could just manually apply the patch to a 7.1 source tree and do a test build of the kernel that would also do it. I'm not experiencing lockups but this patch helped a lot on a machine I have with a particular disk I/O pattern that resulted in extremely poor performance with 7.1-RELEASE. This patch brought it back to its normal performance level.
