Regarding "a feature request which apparently only you want" I decided to do a
search for "gstat sort" to see if anyone else was interested in this. It turns
out that there's now a package in the ports tree (sysutils/gstat-rs) that lists
as its first major feature:

The key differences are:

* gstat-rs supports sorting the disks using the '+', '-', and 'r' keys, and the
  "--sort" and "-r" command line options.

So it is probably fine to close this as "Overcome by events", although I would
like to continue the meta-discussion either here or in direct email between
you, Mark and myself.
