Instead of _S1_, you can specify _S3_ (or _S4_ if you setup for
hibernation properly) for ACPI configuration.
Please try:
# sysctl hw.acpi.sleep_button_state=S3
# sysctl hw.acpi.lid_switch_state=S3
# sysctl hw.acpi.standby_state=S3
