I apologize for jumping down your throat, you walked into a discussion 
that started a few weeks ago, then went into hiatus... and now you've 
resurrected it. :)

There was some discussion as to whether alignment was the driver's job, 
the ethernet layer's job, or the protocl layer's job.  :)

Your code should be fine until we come to a consensus on what to do.
