I'm running:
FreeBSD polo.example.org 4.8-STABLE FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE #3: Fri Aug 15
15:36:34 EDT 2003 dan@polo.example.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/POLO i386

I arrived home Friday about 15:30 to find this box had rebooted and
having trouble with its IDE drive. A screen shot of the console is at
http://www.freebsddiary.org/tmp/ata-failure.jpg

I rebooted into single user mode and ran "fsck -y" on /, /tmp, /var,
and /usr. After another freeze up of the system and a manual reboot,
a second fsck of /usr succeeded and the box booted.

IRC folks suggested a bad IDE cable so I installed a new cable.

When looking at the logs, there was nothing there after 8:51 that
morning and before my rebooting attempts.

Since replacing the cable, I've rerun fsck, and no problems were
found.

What do you think? Cable problem? Or drive problem?
