Hello! I have FreeBSD 2.1.5 and use the 'alias' modified user ppp (by Charles Mott, based on iijppp from 2.1.6) with a BitSURFR Pro at 64 kbps. Ever since I started using this combination, I have occasional problems with FCS (Frame Check Sequence) errors that drop the hardware connection to the ISP, but somehow iijppp does not detect it, thinking that it is still online (the prompt is 'www on PPP>' instead of 'www on ppp>'). As this is a nailed connection, the -ddial option does not get activated and thus, no reconnection. I have tried a number of different configurations for the BitSURFR Pro to no avail; I have also communicated with Charles regarding this and he tells me his modifications do not involve the HDLC layer, which is where the problem seems to be. The same iijppp setup on a USR Sportster 28.8 (internal) does not have this problem. The serial cable between the PC and the BitSURFR Pro is of very good quality and has been confirmed as correct with respect to pin connections, etc. The serial port is an older Boca 16550A card with no "intelligence", just a plain serial port (/dev/cuaa1 = COM2). I am at my wit's end on this problem, so any help will be greatly appreciated. Regards, ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jose F.
