Swap should be a bit larger than the memory. In light of the other advice seen here, one has to wonder if they ever had to debug a kernel panic. Just because one does not use any in during normal operation and in light of how cheap drive space is, it's better to have it and avoid hassle should need it. I figure having a swap large enough to handle the max memory on a system is easy enough.
