small addition I found out how to disable acpi. I know have done the following: started the system, on the first chance to choose something in the screen Welcome to FreeBSD I tped in 6 to get to the boot loader it seems to that time /boot/device.hints has been read so one can get the values and/or set them Ok, I typed set hint.acpi.0.disabled="1" then unload then boot durign /boot/kernel/kernel the computer is simply switched of. That's it Regards Friedrich
