My intent was to make the task easier for new users, who seem to have problems with it (as evidenced by confusion and questions on -questions, and through other media). I thought this method may be an easier one. It definately has parallels to existing entries in the rc system. I like the /etc/sysctl.conf idea, but I haven't seen much movement there yet. sysinstall already has glue for doing things in rc.conf - I'd prefer /etc/sysctl.conf if sysinstall can/will use it.
