Running: XFree-4.0.3, KDE 2.1.1, about 6 mc in some xterms, KMail, Konqueror...I prepare to bring to home some file in 3 floppies. Insert first, mount.clean, write, umount, eject. Insert second, mount, clean, write, umount, eject. Insert third, mount, clean...BANG! When first error messge have been displayed, system was hang. Hang complelely, none action on keyboard press (even Ctrl-Alt-Del), and remotely also doesn't possible to login (have tried ssh from neighbor box). I tried to delete files from read-only floppy through mc. Fstab contained flags: rw,noauto,noexec,-l,-Lru_SU.KOI8-R,-Wkoi2dos. I detect this error since 2.2.5 :-((( versions. Yes, only root can access to floppy. Yes, only root can mount filesystems. But, why I should think about read-only "window" state on each floppy? I have much other things to think about. I don't know, what this concerned to "pure UNIX". I think, there should be elementary "stupid protection" or elementary question like "You mount floppy - check "read-only window" state". > above, this causes lots of errors. On my computer (-current a few > days old), it doesn't panic or hang. On my computer it does hang all times since 2.2.5 (it was first FreeBSD, which I setup :-) ) Or reboot with kernel panic message... Should I patch mount myself :-)) ? -- With Best Regards. Rashid N.
