I know that one day, I’ve successfully booted FreeBSD on my zx6000. But I don’t remember the version. Perhaps was it 8.
But in the end, I couldn’t do that much since e.g. X isn’t available. So I didn’t insist on FreeBSD at the time.

Hi,
I regularly try to install FreeBSD on my zx6000. Last time, back in
May, I was getting machine checks [1]. Despite the help of the ia64
FreeBSD list, I couldn't go further (last attempt in July [2]). So, I
have you tried installing freebsd 8?
If you could, then you can easily update to
9 or 10 via svn later.
