Slightly OT on -stable, I'd guess, but here it goes ... This looks like the typical "broken reverse mapping" problem to me. The sites, you can't connect to time out in DNS trying to figure out the hostname asociated with your IP address. Try connecting to one of the sites that don't work once more and just wait. Really _wait_, i.e. quite a few minutes. If you get a connection eventually, it's reverse lookups. The machines you can connect to either don't care or - like one of our customers once - are within the same administrative domain and do get correct reverse lookups while the reverse delegation for that particular network was broken for the rest of the internet.
