A discussion of IDE vs SCSI ...] People, I must notice that without adding "flags 0x80ff80ff" to the "wdc0" line in kernel config file (documented in LINT only) all that comparative testing worth definitely nothing. For my experience, adding appropriate "flags" almost trippled the performance of a drive (2.3Mb/sec vs 900Kb/sec, iozone and bonnie, Quantum Trailblazer 850Mb, SiS496/497 motherboard; with flags, drive went to 32bit I/O mode with multiblock == 8).
